1st Ever US Open Pickleball Results

The First Annual US Open Pickleball Championships sponsored by Minto just recently were held at the East Naples Community Park in Naples, Florida from April 26-May 1, 2016.

There were over 800 players that participated that represented 39 States; 7 Countries and pickleball games that were played on 48 courts, with 33 of these courts featuring Deco Turf cushion and a Zing Zang Championship Court.

The State of Maine was well-represented with 13 individuals who attended the “Be a part of history” event!

Those enthusiasts were:

Ø Fayette:  Jeanne LaFlamme

Ø Falmouth:  Linda and Charlie Einsiedler, John Lightbody, Rob Rowse

   and Mary Whited

Ø Kennebunkport:  Bill Case

Ø North Monmouth:  Jon Capozza

Ø Portland:  Rocky and Anne Clark

Ø Scarborough:  Steve Gifford

Ø Westbrook:  Robin Kessler

Ø Winthrop:  Ann Theriault

 

There were 153 Gold Medals Awarded in 86 Different Brackets.

Maine was fortunate to have two participants to bring home medals:

 

  • In the Mens Doubles Age Groups 70+

 

The team of John Lightbody from Falmouth, ME (Age 70)

and Roland Calingasan from Clifton Park, NY (Age 70)

were each awarded a Bronze Medal in this Bracket

 

  • In the Mens Doubles Age Groups 65+

 

The team of Jon Capozza from North Monmouth, ME/

Naples, FL (Age 68) and Jim Stuckey from Naples, FL

(Age 69) were each awarded a Silver Medal in this Bracket.

 

Amazing work, guys…..we are incredibly proud of you!
